Last weekend Hebden Bridge saw its first ever Burlesque Festival, a gathering of many of the good and great in the UK (and particularly Northern England) Burlesque community. Although I couldn't get to a lot of the weekends shenanigans, a good time was reportedly had by all with some great performances. Especially noteworthy were the Legend in the Making competition, Voodoo Vaudeville and various workshops by some extremely talented artistes, including Joe Black and Missy Malone. In particular I was asked to take photos at the opening nights performances and Dr Sketchys Anti-Art Workshop opening its first ever session in Hebden Bridge (featuring Havana Hurricane & Fanny Divine)

It is completely understandable that the Burlesque Festival should provoke some comment from some in the local community, with protest in the form of the banner shown below and discussions on our esteemed internet presence Hebweb. I personally can understand both sides of the argument, but as always come down on the side of freedom of expression, tolerance, and celebration and defence of the alternative.
