One of the most interesting wedding venues in the centre of York is The Hospitium. A spacious two-storey 14th century listed building in the beautiful surroundings of Museum Gardens, it is overlooked by the striking ruins of St Mary’s Abbey.

Believed to have originally been one of the Abbey support buildings, possibly a place for visitors to stay, it was later used as a farm building and then became derelict until the 19th century when it was renovated by the Yorkshire Philosophical Society. Now managed by the York Museum Trust, it underwent major renovations in 2008, bringing it into use as a high quality wedding and hospitality venue.
